SQL Server Database Architect
Blutic is looking for a SQL Server Database Architect with 10+ years of experience in database administration and architecture, with a focus on SQL Server and 5+ years in a leadership role, guiding DBA teams and setting database strategy.
The candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the overall database administration (DBA) strategy, leading the DBA team, and ensuring the optimal performance of our SQL Server environments. This role requires deep expertise in SQL Server architecture, database optimization, and high availability solutions. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, capable of setting direction and best practices for database management.
This is a remote position to start with for 6-12 months. After the contract, if the position turns out to be contract-to-hire, candidates will need to physically reside in OR, CA, or WA.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and drive the DBA strategy to ensure scalability, security, and high availability of database systems
Provide direction, mentorship, and oversight to the DBA team, ensuring best practices in database administration
Architect, implement, and optimize SQL Server databases to meet the performance and reliability needs of the business
SQL Expertise: Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies to enhance database performance
Automation & Scripting: Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate database processes and deployments
Lead efforts to optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing strategies, and resource allocation
Design and implement high-availability solutions, replication strategies, and disaster recovery plans for critical databases
Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with industry standards and company policies
Work closely with development, infrastructure, and business teams to align database solutions with company objectives
Establish and maintain database documentation, policies, and best practices for database administration.
Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with developers, data engineers, and business teams to align database solutions with organizational goals
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in database administration and architecture, with a focus on SQL Server
5+ years in a leadership role, guiding DBA teams and setting database strategy
Hands-on experience with Snowflake administration, including data modeling, security, and workload management
Advanced degree or certifications (MCSE: Data Management & Analytics, AWS/Azure Database Certifications) are a plus
Knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Skills:
Expert-level experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database architecture, administration, and optimization.
Strong understanding of SQL Server high-availability and disaster recovery solutions (Always On, replication, mirroring, etc.).
Experience with database automation, scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL), and performance tuning.
Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset.
